pH & Acidic Well Water

pH measures how acidic or basic your water is on a scale of 0 to 14. Drinking water should sit between about 6.5 and 8.5. In the Delaware Valley — and much of Upper Bucks — private wells often come in below 6.5, and that low pH quietly damages your home.

Signs of low-pH water

Blue-green staining on sinks, tubs, and around fixtures — that's copper dissolving out of your pipes.

Pinhole leaks in copper plumbing, sometimes appearing years after the home was built.

A metallic taste to drinking water and coffee.

Elevated copper (and sometimes lead) on a lab report, even when the well itself is 'clean.'

Why acidic water matters for your health

Low pH doesn't hurt you directly, but it dissolves metals out of pipes and fixtures. That's how homes with 'clean' wells end up with lead or copper at the tap. We always pair a pH result with a first-draw metals test when the pH is low.
